March TNT: A History of Pilotage of the Columbia River Bar
Mar 21 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm| Free
Join us for the March 21st TNT, “A History of Pilotage on the Columbia River Bar,” presented by Thron Riggs.
Captain Riggs joined his first ship as a ”wiper” directly out of high school. After twenty-seven seagoing years, he spent the next twenty-two years as a Columbia River Bar Pilot. Given his experience and the lack of any definitive written history of the Columbia River Bar pilots, Riggs has penned a new book, A History of Pilotage on the Columbia River Bar, that provides a detailed account of guiding ships across the notoriously dangerous Columbia River Bar, where the river meets the Pacific Ocean.
The Clatsop County Historical Society’s TNT lecture series is a free event at Fort George Brewery on the third Thursday of each month, October-June. Doors open at 6:00 pm, with lectures beginning at 7:00 pm. Seasonal beers on tap, food, and other beverages are available for purchase. Minors are welcome with an accompanying adult.
