The Cedar People
The Cedar People, located in our Robert M. Drucker Gallery, documents the essential history of the region’s first settlers through artifacts, illustrations, folk tales, and personal recollections. Clatsop, Chinook, Kathlamet, Klatskanie, and Tillamook. These were the native tribes of the Lower Columbia River, the Cedar People. Before the arrival of foreign explorers, the five local tribes had a sustainable way of life in a region full of natural resources. These same resources brought them prosperity through the trade of valuable resources, such as salmon, with other tribes along the Columbia River.
