Uppertown Firefighters Museum
Built into a former fire station, the Uppertown Fire Fighter’s Museum showcases vintage and antique firefighting equipment utilized by the Astoria Fire Department during its 150-year-plus history. Notable pieces include an 1876 LaFrance Hook and Ladder Truck, a 1911 La France Chemical Wagon, a 1921 Stutz Pumper, and a 1945 Mack Pumper Engine.
The building was initially built in 1896 as part of the North Pacific Brewery. Closed by Prohibition in 1915, the old brewery remained empty for several years but was acquired by the city in 1920 and reopened as the Uppertown Station #2 in 1928. This station was closed in 1960 when a new Headquarters Station was opened directly behind the old building. It was reopened as the Uppertown Firefighters Museum in 1990, 120 years after Astoria’s first volunteer fire department’s organization.
